Women’s Herstories

The word ‘guys’ is forbidden in my Public Speaking class because the word degenders girls and women, lumping them in with boys and men. My students lose two points each time they use it in a speech. This might sound a little harsh but it teaches them to mind their words. It teaches them how unconsciously we say things that may be terribly wrong.

Throughout the centuries women’s writings, music, and stories have been sidelined to the expression of male writers, musicians, and historians. It is time for herstories to be told with the same enthusiasm as have histories.
